TAHOMA ROBOTICS CLUB RECEIVES DESIGN AWARD IN SEATTLE

Tahoma Robotics Club on Saturday received the General Motors Industrial Design Award at the Microsoft Regional 2010 robotics competition in Seattle. The award recognizes the innovative design of the team's robot in this year's FIRST Robotics Competition, which presents high school teams throughout the world each year with a new robotics challenge.
The team (which goes by the name Bear Metal) was at KeyArena competing with robotics teams from around the Pacific Northwest and beyond. Throughout the day on Friday and Saturday, robots took to the field and played a game where they kicked and herded soccer balls around the arena and into goals at each corner. Obstacles, such as foot-high "bumps", separated sections of the field and challenged the ability of the robots to move about. Bear Metal's robot, Odyssey, was designed to climb easily over the obstacles and to kick a ball the length of the field.

TAHOMA ROBOTICS CLUB TO COMPETE AT KEY ARENA IN SEATTLE

Tahoma Robotics Club, team 2046 in the FIRST Robotics Competition, travels to Seattle tomorrow to take part in the Microsoft Seattle Regional 2010 competition. This event will be at Key Arena on Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. A highlight for visitors will be the opportunity to tour the "pit" where robots are worked on between matches. The event is free and open to the public. Children are encouraged to attend.

Tahoma Robotics Club, team 2046 in the FIRST Robotics Competition, returned from Portland this weekend having reached the semi-finals in the Autodesk Oregon Regional Event.
In the competition, the team (which goes by the name Bear Metal) joined teams from the Pacific Northwest and beyond in fielding robots which can control and propel soccer balls around the arena, scoring points by placing the balls in goals at each corner of the arena. TAHOMA ROBOTICS CLUB GOES TO PORTLAND FOR COMPETITION

Tahoma Robotics Club, team 2046 in the FIRST Robotics Competition, left Maple Valley today for Portland, Oregon, where the team and its robot "Odyssey" will compete in the Autodesk Oregon Regional Event this weekend.
Over the past two months, the team (which goes by the name Bear Metal) has designed and built a robot to meet this year's FIRST Robotics Competition challenge. Teams from around the world participate in the competition, this year building robots which control and propel soccer balls around an arena and scoring points by placing the balls in goals located at each corner of the arena. The teams meet in regional competitions, and winners advance to the FIRST Robotics Competition Championship in Atlanta, Georgia in April.

ROBOT "ODYSSEY" SHIPPED TO PORTLAND FOR COMPETITION

Tahoma Robotics Club, team 2046 in the FIRST Robotics Competition, today shipped its newest robot, "Odyssey", to Portland, Oregon for the Autodesk Oregon Regional Event, a competition to be held the weekend of March 5 and March 6, 2010.
The team, which goes by the name Bear Metal, has been working on the conception, design, construction and testing of its robot since the FIRST Robotics Competition challenge was issued six weeks ago. Each year, the FIRST Robotics Competition presents teams around the world with a new challenge in the form of a game -- each team must build a robot which can play the game. This year the game is called "Breakaway" and requires the robot to control and propel soccer balls around the arena.
